Description

What is Sankatahara Chaturthi?

The term “Sankatahara” comes from the Sanskrit words Sankata (meaning difficulty or obstacles) and Hara (meaning remover). Thus, Sankatahara Chaturthi is the “fast of the remover of obstacles,” specifically invoking Lord Ganesha’s divine intervention to help devotees overcome personal, financial, and spiritual struggles.

This vratam is observed on the Chaturthi of Krishna Paksha, the waning phase of the moon, and is one of the most important Ganesha-related observances after Ganesh Chaturthi itself. Devotees believe that by fasting and performing the rituals associated with this vratam, they can invoke Lord Ganesha’s blessings to remove all obstacles in their path, whether physical, mental, or spiritual.

Although Sankatahara Chaturthi itself is not specifically mentioned in the Vedas, the worship of Lord Ganesha and fasting practices for removing obstacles are deeply rooted in Hindu scriptures.
